The platform — six systems, seven extensions, fourteen switches

Six systems on one record.

A forwarder does not have six jobs. It has one shipment that the rate desk, customs, the warehouse, the customer and the billing clerk all need to read. Six systems write to that shipment. Nothing is exported between them and nothing is mapped, so two screens cannot hold two answers.

Drawing the slabs apart is the whole claim: a slab not purchased is absent rather than dormant, so nothing that is not being paid for is still running underneath.
The six

One is the base. Five are switches.

SCM holds the record. The other five read it and write back to it (Fig. 1). Screen counts are what is in the build today, counted on 2 September 2026.

SCM

41 screens · the base
House and master registers, bookings and shipping instructions, the cut-off board. The house B/L, arrival notice, delivery order, labels and manifest print from the record. Credit terms and margin rules sit on the customer card; while an invoice is past terms the delivery order is locked and the screen names the invoice that locked it. Month-end billing across every shipment, supplier bills allocated onto the cost lines, and the job’s profit while the job is still open. Hired trucking is one of the five modules, not a separate purchase.

QMS

5 screens · buy, sell, margin
Buy and sell rates side by side — air weight breaks, LCL revenue ton, FCL per container, contract and spot. Validity is enforced: an expired table cannot price at all, and the morning queue warns at 30, 14 and 7 days. Below the minimum margin for a customer grade a line needs an approval, and the approval is recorded. Trade notices reach the quotes that use the lane. Rate sheets arriving as PDF, image or spreadsheet are read by the model, twice, and nothing is saved until the table has been reviewed.

ABI

7 screens · before departure
ISF-10 and ISF-5 per house, ten data elements, with a pre-check before anything is sent. AES commodity lines and the AESTIR file at 80 bytes a line, fixed width; ACE WebLink reads the ITN and any rejection back onto the shipment. Ocean and air AMS against the 24-hour rule, with who filed recorded. Powers of attorney and their expiry. De minimis for 33 destinations. AMC does not transmit to CBP and is not an ABI broker — that was a decision, not a gap.

Portal

65 screens · 29 public, 15 customer, 21 staff
A public site in the forwarder’s name — company pages, tracking, e-AWB and proof-of-delivery lookup, quotation and pickup requests, notices — with branding set on one screen. Behind a login, the customer sees shipments in progress, quotations to accept, shipment and pickup requests, documents, invoices with a balance, rates and an address book. Every form submitted lands in one staff inbox that can be assigned, answered, marked as spam, or turned into a quotation or a pickup in one step.

LiveTrack

Stage 1
4 pushes · status on phones
The Portal installed on the customer’s home screen under the forwarder’s name and icon, opening straight onto their dashboard. Four pushes off the record — delayed, arrived, out for delivery, delivered — each one opening the tracking page it belongs to. Dead subscriptions are cleared on their own. It is marked Stage 1 because it is not in an app store, and that is stated here rather than discovered in front of a customer.
Push · installed from the Portal

WMS

30 screens · 11 of them in a hand
Pickup and delivery runs, receiving scans, locations, per-shipper stock, piece labels, walk-order picking, cycle counts, storage charges and the rules behind them. The storage clock starts at the receiving scan and stops at load-out, which is how the charge reaches the invoice. The field app scans with the browser’s barcode reader and a zxing fallback, takes photo, signature and GPS on the proof of delivery, queues offline, and speaks four languages.

What one record means

The same number is not keyed twice.

Retyping is where the numbers stop agreeing. Three numbers are set out below, with everywhere each one is read. Each is entered in exactly one place; nothing downstream is keyed again, so nothing downstream can disagree. Fig. 2 sets the three beside everywhere each one is read.

Fig. 2 — Entered once, and everywhere it is read.lib/weights.ts · lib/charge-line.ts · lib/storage.ts
Every arrow goes one way, and that is the whole of the claim: there is no screen downstream on which the number can be keyed again, so there is no screen that can quietly be holding a different one.
Entered once

The weight

Pieces, weight and volume go on at booking. QMS prices the LCL line on revenue ton from them: 8 cubic metres and 12,000 kilos bill as 12.000 W/M, and the line prints both inputs beside the answer.

Read by

The house B/L prints the same fields. The AES commodity line takes them. The invoice quantity is the number the B/L shows, because there is only one of it.

Entered once

The charge line

A charge is priced on the quotation, with the basis it was priced on. Accepting the quotation opens the shipment carrying every line, so the sell side of the job is already there before it is worked.

Read by

Supplier bills land on the cost lines. Month-end billing turns the revenue lines into the invoice. What the two sides leave is the job’s profit. With Connect the invoice goes to QuickBooks and the payment reads back and flips it to paid.

Started once

The clock

An event starts a clock: a receiving scan, a discharge, a gate-out. The event is stamped with the zone it was stamped in, so a four o’clock delivery in Los Angeles does not read as eleven at night to the customer.

Read by

Storage stops at load-out and reaches that shipment’s invoice. Containers runs demurrage and detention as two clocks. The morning queue reads all of them and sorts by what costs the most to leave alone.

Extensions

Seven more switches, under the systems that own them.

An extension is not a second product. It sits under the system that owns the record it touches, and it goes on and off the same way. Two more sit outside this list: Voice, and party screening, which has its own switch and is priced at zero.

Free time as two clocks — demurrage while the box is at the terminal, detention while the box is held — and boxes pulled before the ERD counted on their own. Carrier D&D invoices audited against the twenty items 46 CFR §541.6 requires, clause by clause, with a dispute letter written under §541.5.
Nine standard reports, saved views, and a Monday morning email that goes out whether or not anyone opens the screen.
Contacts, activity and follow-ups on the customer card, and a board of what is going cold. Not a sales pipeline — in forwarding a quotation is a document, not an opportunity.
Agent settlement and netting, pre-alerts in both directions, co-loader statements.
Container and air waybill tracking, QuickBooks both ways — invoices, credit notes and supplier bills out, payments read back to flip an invoice to paid — and reading a document with the model.
Personal and ecommerce parcels leaving the United States: prepayment where a refund stays as a negative row instead of being deleted, de minimis for 33 destinations, and 500 rows pasted from a spreadsheet.
Today’s work spread across trucks and drivers, with the field app on the other end.
Switches

What happens when a switch is turned off.

Fourteen switches, turned by the customer’s own administrator. There is no ticket, no waiting on AMC, and no charge for the ones left off — Fig. 3 is what a clerk sees afterwards.

Fig. 3 — Off means the menu is gone.lib/modules.ts
Containers Your own administrator, not a support ticket. Sidebar ShipmentsCustomers Ocean Containers Free Time & D&D D&D Auditor Billing Not greyed out. Gone.
A greyed-out menu still teaches the clerk that the feature exists and that somebody must be asked for it; a menu that is not there asks nothing of anyone.

Off means the menu is gone

The menu is neither greyed out nor replaced by a page that asks for a call to sales. The menus for that system are not there and the screens behind them are not reachable, so a clerk cannot walk into a half-bought room by accident. When the switch is turned back on, the menus return with the records they always had.

One switch costs nothing

Party screening has its own switch, priced at zero. The law requires the check and the list is free government data — 25,939 entries in the United States consolidated list. The decision is recorded, and the age of the list is on the screen next to the result, because a check run yesterday against a list six months old has confirmed nothing.

Where the claim is not made

Fifteen of the Portal’s signed-in customer screens do not read the company switch yet. The statement in the first column is therefore not made about the Portal, and it is recorded here rather than left to be discovered. It is on the list of things being fixed, not on the list of things being sold.

Asked about the platform.

Do I have to buy all six?
No. SCM is the base and everyone has it. The other five are switched on per company as required. Most companies start with SCM and the Portal and add the rest a system at a time.
Is anything exported or mapped between the six?
No. They read and write the same shipment. There is no nightly job between them, no field mapping to maintain, and no second copy of a number to go stale. That is the whole reason they are one platform and not six purchases.
Who decides what is on, and how fast does it change?
The customer’s own administrator, on a switch, per company. Seats are counted once, in SCM, per seat with a minimum of two. Everything else is a switch, and only the ones switched on are billed.
What does the platform not do?
No general ledger — no chart of accounts, no bank reconciliation, no month-end close; QuickBooks goes both ways instead. AMC does not transmit to CBP. There is no EDI over a VAN or AS2 and no booking EDI at all; SCM writes a 315 file for download. No live carrier or airline rate feeds — rates are entered by people. No report builder and no sales pipeline. Most of these are decisions, and stating them before the demonstration avoids wasted time on both sides.

Forty-five minutes on a real shipment.

One shipment is taken from quotation to invoice, on a demonstration company or on a copy of the customer’s own spreadsheet. Difficult lanes are welcome. The session ends with a written quotation.
